Not even modern Ferraris, with their hyper-quick steering, feel like this. Step inside to find racing-inspired Si seats, red stitching and a unique honeycomb-patterned dash strip, all working together to offer an immersive driving experience. Honda may give the engine a few tweaks for the new generation model. The all-new Civic Si turns heads with its gloss black decklid spoiler, slick 18-inch, matte-black alloy wheels and unmistakable Si badge. Under the hood, the Honda Civic Si is expected to get the same old 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo engine.

Those slicks, plus the sensation of quicker steering from a smaller-diameter wheel, give the TCA immediate turn-in grip. Honda says that the new Civic Si will be the ‘most fun-to-drive’ car, hinting at its sporty character. (Si TCAs competing in the SRO series wear Pirellis.) He was constantly in my ear urging me to carry more speed into corners, and get back on the power sooner and harder, leaning on the TCA's limited-slip differential and Hoosier DOT slicks. That said, his biggest concern was that I was babying the car so much. This prediction is based on Hondas brand history and the previous generation of the Civic. Honda had racer Ryan Lewis sit right-seat to make sure I didn’t do anything stupid. We expect the 2022 Civic to have about average reliability when compared to other new cars. The TCA might share much with the Si road car, but, within a few corners of Circuit of the Americas, you realize this is a profoundly different machine. You can hear how it'll sing its part in a chorus of angry four-cylinder touring cars. It's a hell of a lot louder than the road car, too. Breathing through a low-restriction exhaust, the Si's 1.5-liter turbo-four is delightfully snarly, echoing through the bare cabin. Or maybe it's the noise that comes when you push it. Maybe it's because it's funny to see something so stylized in an otherwise spartan, workshop-like interior. I found it particularly amusing that you fire the car with the same engine stop-start button used in the road car.
